Ideal YAMM Fellow

Time: Approximately a year of service (Mid-August to the end of the following July). Fellows can serve up to two years.
Accountable To: YAMM Program Director, YAMM Board of Directors, and Placement Site Supervisor.
The Young Adult Missional Movement is a program for young adults ages 18-30 who are interested in exploring their faith in new ways by living and serving in communities around the State of Florida.
An ideal applicant must have a desire to serve in community-based organizations churches and live-in intentional community. Applicants also must be mature and possess the willingness to grow, be a humble learner, and the ability to be authentic.
An ideal YAMM Fellow also bring a willingness to explore faith, justice and is prepared to work in a professional setting. YAMM Fellows should be ready to ask challenging questions of themselves and each other about how to live simply, in community, with integrity and justice, while doing meaningful and mutually empowering service.
YAMM Fellows will work at partner site placement organizations addressing a wide range of social and environmental issues including, but not limited to economic justice, racial equity, housing and homelessness, education, immigration, environmental sustainability, human rights issues, mental and physical disability, and family and youth justice.

Placement sites are available in Miami, FL, Tampa, FL, and St. Petersburg, FL. Other placement sites may be available in the future.
Benefits: YAMM provides housing and utilities, a public transit pass, grocery allowance, health insurance, a simple living stipend, access to conferences and trainings, dedicated time for reflection and community building, and robust support from staff and volunteers.
Program Duration: The program runs from August to the end of July each year.

YAMM Fellows must:
- Be able to use public transportation when other options are not available.
- Be able to move and go up stairs with or without assistive aids.
- Be able to care for own personal bodily hygiene cleanliness and maintain cleanliness of personal living space.
- Be able to prepare meals for self and others.

- Have a willingness to accept this program comes from a Christian perspective
- Enter intentionally into this experience with an open mind and a willingness to see where God is at work and imagine ways to join in.
- Be ready to be formed and transformed (personally, spiritually, emotionally and intellectually) by God’s work in, through, and around them.
- Be willing to take initiative, be personally responsible, and remain flexible both within their communities and in service assignments.
- Carry a desire for honesty and transparency in their conversations with others.
- Be willing to engage in holistic learning through experience, reflection, study, and discussion.
- Have the emotional maturity to function effectively in community and work settings within a cross-cultural environment.
- Be committed to bearing witness to God’s love and peace while speaking out against evil and injustice.
Placement sites are available in Miami, FL, Tampa, FL, and St. Petersburg, FL. Other placement sites may be available in the future.

- Housing - It is a central tenet to our program that participants live cooperatively together to build intentional Christian community. All participants live in team houses, arranged by our program. Housing is a benefit and a requirement of the program. The household will have meals together at least twice a week.
- Joint grocery budget – Household expenses are shared among team members. Planning, shopping, cooking and meals will be shared together as much as possible. Grocery allowance is $200 per person on team per month.
- Health insurance if not already covered otherwise. This is an ACA compliant plan available for young adult participants in this program.
- YAMM participants are allowed two weeks of time off. If your organization is a church, they are allowed to miss only three Sundays.
- Personal stipend $430 per month for personal spending before taxes and deductions. This is paid bi-weekly from the Florida Conference of the UMC payroll system.
- Retreat: Three to four retreats over the year with all the other interns.
- Loan deferment potential – depends upon education loan type.
- Vocational discernment and career launching potential.

Apply by April 15th at yammfl.org/online-application for priority placements. Applications will be accepted thru September 1 if space is available.
